FNBB Is Botswana's Most Valuable Domestic Company, By A Mile

According to data from the Botswana Stock Exchange, by the end of March 2025, domestic companies on the bourse had a market capitalisation of P54 billion.

Comparatively, the market capitalisation in 2020 was P35.6 billion, an indication of the growth that local securities have garnered in just five years.

Banks and real estate companies dominate the most valuable companies chart, with First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) coming out first with a market capitalisation of P13 billion. Absa follows, albeit not very closely, with a market capitalisation of P6 billion, the same as Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL).

Other banks' market capitalisation includes Standard Chartered Bank Botswana with P2 billion, and Access Bank Botswana with P1.5 billion.

Interestingly, although real estate companies do not feature in the Top 5 most valuable companies on the BSE, at least five of them feature prominently in the Top 15, including New African Properties (P2.4 billion), RDC Holdings (P1.8 billion), Far Property (P880 million), Turnstar Holdings (P1.3 billion) and Letlole La Rona (P826 million).

Retail companies are represented by Sefalana (P1 billion) and Choppies (P985 million), while the sole telco on the BSE, BTCL comes in with a market cap of P1.1 billion.

Other notable presences in the BSE's most valuable domestic companies list include Sechaba Breweries, Letshego (P2.3 billion), Engen, SeedCo (P1.4 billion) and Chobe (P1 billion).
