Standard Chartered Botswana has announced the appointment of Solomon Sekwakwa as Chairperson of its Board, effective 1 July 2025.
Sekwakwa takes over from Ms Doreen Khama, who officially retires from the role today, 30 June 2025.
Sekwakwa joined the board as an Independent Non-Executive Director in April 2022.
He is a veteran economist and former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, bringing expertise in economic planning, fiscal policy, and strategic leadership. During his public service career, he oversaw key financial operations within the Government of Botswana.
His corporate governance experience spans more than a decade, having served on the boards of high-profile institutions including the Bank of Botswana, National Development Bank, Botswana Development Corporation, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency, Debswana, and the De Beers Group.
"He has an in-depth board and governance experience acquired over the years, having served as a board member for entities in the financial and non-financial sectors. He served on the Bank of Botswana board for over a decade," Standard Chartered Bank Botswana said.
The board expressed confidence in Sekwakwa’s leadership and thanked Ms Khama for her “sterling and invaluable contribution.”
