Botswana Development Corporation Board Replaced In Entirety

The Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship has reconstituted the board of the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC). A new board is expected to be announced in due course.

This comes only a few days after BDC also announced a new Caretaker Managing Director, Oteng Keabetswe.

"The reconstitution forms part of the company's broader transformation agenda and aligns with its mandate to scale impact in support of the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), while accelerating investment in priority sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, renewable energy, and manufacturing," BDC said.

The outgoing directors are Boniface Mphetlhe, Gideon Mmolawa, Onalenna Otlaadisa-Diloro, Boyang Mufahothe, Lesley Bradley, Lebogang Joan Pillar, and Cecilia Mamelodi-Onyadile.

"This development marks a pivotal moment in the company's strategic evolution, which is aimed at strengthening governance and introducing fresh perspectives and expertise to support BDC as it catalyses inclusive growth, industrialisation and long-term sustainability for Botswana," added BDC.

In its latest financial results, BDC reported a P24.1 million loss before tax for the six months ending December 31, 2024, a sharp decline from the P44.1 million profit it posted in the same period last year.

The slump comes as total income at the group level fell by 14% to P233.3 million, dragged down by weaker trade income and a drop in rental earnings.
