Lesego Moseki to Become Bank of Botswana Governor from February 2026

After being appointed as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Botswana in February, Lesego Moseki will ascend to the position of Governor in February 2026.

This follows a "mutual separation" between the Bank of Botswana and current governor Cornelius Dekop.

Dekop was appointed as governor in October 2023, replacing former governor Moses Pelaelo, who had been at the helm of the bank since October 21, 2016.  Dekop is a former chairman of the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB), and also held directorships on the boards of DEBSWANA and De Beers Group.

He has also been a national cabinet secretary under the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy, as well as a secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

Moseki joined the apex bank in 1994 as an assistant supervisor in the foreign exchange reserves management unit and, from 2020, rose to director of the Financial Markets department.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Botswana and a Master of Science in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham.
