Engen Botswana Limited has announced changes to its board of directors, with long-serving non-executive director Stephen Paul Williams resigning, and seasoned oil and gas executive Ravi Kara being appointed to the board, effective January 2026.
The company confirmed that Williams stepped down from the board on 31 December 2025, marking the end of his tenure with the listed fuel retailer. Engen said the board “wishes Mr. Stephen Paul Williams well with his future endeavors.”
In a corresponding move aimed at strengthening governance and financial oversight, Engen appointed Kara as a non-executive director from 1 January 2026, subject to shareholder approval at the company’s next annual general meeting.
Experienced industry hand
Kara joins the Botswana board with deep experience from Engen Petroleum in South Africa, where he currently serves as Finance Head: Commercial. A chartered accountant by profession, he has held multiple senior roles across the group, including Enterprise Performance Manager and Financial Services Manager, overseeing Engen’s international operations in 15 countries.
His governance experience spans the region. Kara is the Chairman of Engen Eswatini and a board member of Engen Lesotho, having previously served on the boards of Engen DRC and Engen Mauritius.
Engen described him as “a seasoned Oil & Gas senior manager, with a strong financial and commercial background,” adding that his executive training includes programmes completed through DUKE Corporate Education.
Continuity amid transition
Board chair Shabani Ndzinge said the company welcomed Kara and looked forward to his contribution to the board’s continued strength.
The dual announcements come as Engen Botswana continues to position itself within a competitive energy market marked by shifting consumer demand and the gradual transition toward cleaner fuels.
Engen Botswana operates one of the country’s largest fuel retail networks and remains a significant player in petroleum marketing, lubricants and convenience retail.
