The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has appointed Maranyane Makhondo as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective May 1, 2026. She replaces Benedicta Abosi, who exited in March.
Makhondo previously served as Head of Group Accounting at BDC, where she oversaw the corporation’s financial accounting and tax functions, including financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. The corporation said she also served in the role of Acting Chief Financial Officer during critical periods, where she demonstrated leadership and operational oversight.
According to BDC, Makhondo played a central role in maintaining reporting integrity, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring alignment with regulatory and corporate governance standards during her tenure in the finance division.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Finance and Investments from the London School of Business Finance and is a qualified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She also holds the Fellow Certified Public Accountant designation, credentials BDC said reflect her expertise in financial stewardship and governance.
In her new role, Makhondo will oversee the corporation’s financial strategy implementation, risk management, reporting oversight, and broader financial sustainability efforts in support of BDC’s investment mandate.
The appointment comes as BDC continues to position itself as a key financier and development partner for businesses in Botswana, with a mandate to drive economic diversification and industrial growth across the country.
