Sam Altman Returns As OpenAI CEO

In the latest twist to the OpenAI saga that has been unfolding since Friday, OpenAI has announced that Sam Altman will return as CEO. Altman was ousted by the company's board on Friday, stating that he was not "candid" in his communications.

"I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team," Altman tweeted. "With the new board and with Satya’s support, I’m looking forward to returning to OpenAI, and building on our strong partnership with Microsoft."

After his removal which investors like Microsoft and Sequoia Capital allegedly knew nothing about, several members of the OpenAI team, including President Greg Brockman also resigned in solidarity. To add more twists to the drama, on Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman and other OpenAI team members would be joining Microsoft to head an AI-research subsidiary within Microsoft.

All in all, as the saga seems to be over for now with Altman's return, OpenAI has had a total of four CEOs in less than five days.
