AI Helped Debswana Boost Efficiency by 10%, According to Microsoft

In 2020, Debswana Mine and Microsoft announced a partnership that saw the former use the latter's Azure technology to "utilize data in the most effective way". The results are in for that partnership and according to Microsoft, Azure helped the mine boost its operational efficiency by as much as 10%. This was stated in Microsoft's "AI in Africa" report.

"With Azure, Debswana can easily manage time-consuming processes such as data collection in a short time, the mining company said at the time of the partnership."It can predict the problem by creating predictions over the data and allow intervention before the problem occurs."

In 2022, continuing its technology play, De Beers, part owner of Debswana, launched the world's first and only distributed diamond blockchain called Tracr™ which will provide tamper-proof source assurance at scale, enabling sightholders to provide an immutable record of a diamond’s origin, and empowering jewellery retailers to have confidence in the origin of the diamonds they purchase.
