Internet Connectivity To Be Restored In May, According To BOFINET

Botswana Fibre Networks (BOFINET) has stated that internet connectivity in Botswana will be fully restored in May after the fixing of the WACS and EASSY undersea cables. The EASSY cable cut occurred in the Red Sea, while the West Africa Cable System (WACS) cable cut is located around Cameroon.

"As a result, our internet traffic to London and Europe has been switched to an alternative submarine cable," BOFINET said in a statement. "Please note that there is a risk of losing traffic to London and Europe if our service provider experiences failure within South Africa, or if there is another undersea cable cut."

The expected time of repair for EASSY cable is May 4th, 2024. Some internet users in Botswana and other countries in Africa have been having issues with unavailable and sometimes extremely slow internet speeds over the last few days. Other users reported outages with Microsoft 365 services.
