UB Says It Is Unable To Pay Salaries

The University of Botswana (UB) has stated that it is currently experiencing cashflow challenges which have led to the delay of salaries for employees for the month of March.

"Members of the public are informed that the Executive Management has and is actively engaging with the shareholder with a view to receiving substantial amount of funds that are to be remitted to the University by end business day tomorrow [Friday]," the institution said in a statement.

UB did not state who the shareholder is who would avail the funds or under what conditions. The institutions also did not mention the cause of the cashflow challenges.

Last year, the university's staff received an 8% salary increase following six years of not having salary adjustments. They had originally asked for a 15% increase.
