Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) has named Thato Kewakae as its interim board chair, following the retirement of long-serving chair Mokgethi Magapa.
The appointment took effect on September 23, 2025.
Kewakae, who has served as an independent non-executive director since 2021, brings extensive experience in business and ICT. He is currently chair of BTC’s Human Resources Committee, and a member of both the Technology and Investment Committee as well as the Directors Affairs and Governance Committee.
BTC described him as a “well-rounded business professional and executive” with a background spanning consultancy, private sector growth, and support services for both government and corporate institutions.
Magapa, who also stepped down as board chair, retired alongside fellow independent non-executive directors Bafana Molomo and Ranjith Priyalal De Silva. BTC expressed gratitude for their “stewardship and transformative service” to the company.
In addition to Kewakae’s appointment, BTC announced the addition of Kgotso Bannalotlhe to its board as an independent non-executive director. Bannalotlhe is a seasoned financial services executive with over 20 years of leadership experience in banking and financial markets across Botswana and the region.
He currently serves as Regional Chief Executive for Botswana, Lesotho, and eSwatini at Letshego Holdings and heads Letshego Financial Services Botswana. His previous leadership roles include CEO of Access Bank Botswana, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Barclays Bank Botswana, and senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank in Botswana and Tanzania.
