Tlou Energy’s Kala Data Centre Nears First Revenue in Botswana

Tlou Energy Limited says its Kala Data Centre, located at the Lesedi gas-to-power facility in Botswana, is set to generate its first revenue in the coming weeks.

The company confirmed that civil works and gas gathering systems at the site have been completed, while the first data-centre module has already been installed. Revenue is now dependent on the arrival and commissioning of two gas-fired generators currently en route to the project.

“This milestone represents the first direct monetisation of our gas reserves and validates our strategy of building scalable, revenue-generating energy projects in Botswana,” said Tlou Energy Managing Director, Colm Cloonan.

The Kala Data Centre project stems from a partnership signed in March 2025 between Tlou Energy and UAE-based Kala Data FZCO. The facility has been designed to withstand the Kalahari Desert’s high temperatures and dust, with modular units enabling phased expansion in line with future power generation growth.

Once operational, the project will provide Tlou Energy with a new revenue stream, leveraging its coal-bed methane resources. Cloonan added that the company sees “significant upside potential” in expanding capacity and integrating renewable energy sources, including solar, in future phases.

A spokesperson for Kala Data highlighted the broader prospects of the project, citing the combination of gas resources, transmission infrastructure, and approved solar potential as a “hybrid platform with multiple power-generation and monetisation pathways.”
