ODC Managing Director Mmetla Masire to Step Down, CFO Named Interim Leader

The Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) has announced a leadership transition that will see Managing Director Mmetla Masire conclude his tenure with the state-owned diamond trader effective 1 December 2025.

In a statement released by the company’s Board of Directors, ODC described the separation as an “amicable and mutually agreed decision,” marking a new phase in the organisation’s strategic evolution.

Masire, who took over the reins of ODC on 12 July 2021, has been credited with steering the company through a significant turnaround strategy. His leadership period delivered ODC’s highest-ever revenue in the 2022/2023 financial year, the strongest performance since the organisation was established in 2012.

During his tenure, ODC also implemented a fit-for-purpose organisational structure and diversified its sales channels, achievements the board highlighted as instrumental in strengthening the company’s market presence and operational efficiency.

“The Board of Directors extends its sincere appreciation to Mr Masire for his dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the company’s growth,” the statement read. The board also wished him success in his future endeavours, noting that he leaves ODC “in a strong position” and has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to maintain momentum.

To ensure continuity, ODC has appointed Chief Financial Officer Lipalese Makepe as Acting Managing Director. She will oversee the company through the transition while maintaining operational stability.

Both Masire and the Board emphasised their commitment to ensuring a smooth and seamless handover.

ODC, one of Botswana’s key diamond marketing entities, continues to play a central role in the country’s diamond value chain, sourcing and selling rough diamonds independently of the Debswana–De Beers sales channels.
