Letshego Appoints Poelo Mkpayah as Interim Group CFO

The board of Letshego Africa Holdings has appointed Poelo Mkpayah as interim group chief financial officer and executive director, effective June 1, 2026, as the pan-African lender strengthens its leadership team amid ongoing expansion across the continent.

Mkpayah, who currently serves as group head of finance at Letshego, brings more than two decades of experience in financial services and investment management to the role. She has spent over 10 years within the Letshego Group, holding several senior finance positions across both the parent company and its subsidiaries.

Her appointment comes as African financial institutions increasingly prioritise experienced finance leaders capable of navigating complex capital markets, regulatory requirements and digital transformation efforts.

Before taking on the interim CFO role, Mkpayah served as regional chief financial officer for Letshego’s West Africa operations, based in Accra, Ghana. In that role, she led capital-raising initiatives spanning listed bond markets, development finance institutions and commercial banks. She also oversaw financial governance for a portfolio that included fintech and mobile lending platforms.

The executive was recognised as Ghana’s Chief Financial Officer of the Year 2024 in the non-bank financial institution category and also served on the Finance & Audit Committee of the Ghana Association of Savings and Loans.

Mkpayah’s appointment highlights the growing convergence between traditional financial services and digital lending across Africa, where established institutions are increasingly investing in fintech capabilities to expand access to credit and financial inclusion.

Prior to joining Letshego, she held senior positions at Botswana Development Corporation and Ernst & Young, gaining experience in audit, governance and investment oversight.

She holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from University of Botswana, is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and completed the Senior Leadership Development Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in 2024.

In a statement, the Letshego board said it looked forward to Mkpayah’s contributions to the company’s “continued growth and success.”
