BTC Appoints Five New Non-Executive Directors

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) has appointed five new non-executive directors, bringing together expertise in telecommunications, finance, governance, law and digital transformation as the listed telecoms operator seeks to strengthen oversight of its next phase of growth.

The appointments, which took effect on 1 July 2026, remain subject to shareholder approval at the company's next annual general meeting. The new directors are Lorato Mosetlhanyane, Andries Delport, Mythri Sambasivan-George, Hildah Mocuminyane-Hlanti and Ikanyeng Molemele.

The new board members collectively bring decades of executive and boardroom experience from Botswana and across the African telecommunications and financial services sectors.

Former Botswana Life Insurance chief financial officer Lorato Mosetlhanyane joins the board with more than 17 years of executive leadership experience in telecommunications, banking and insurance. She previously held senior finance roles at BTC and later served as board chairperson of Access Bank Botswana, in addition to sitting on the board of G4S Botswana. Her expertise spans financial strategy, governance, risk management and organisational transformation.

The board also gains deep industry experience through Andries Delport, a telecommunications executive with nearly four decades in the sector. Currently chief executive of CIVH Africa and chief technology officer of CIVH, Delport previously spent almost 24 years at Vodacom Group, including nearly a decade as group chief technology officer. His experience includes overseeing major fibre infrastructure investments, technology strategy and network transformation projects across Africa.

Strengthening the board's financial oversight is Mythri Sambasivan-George, whose career spans more than 25 years across banking, financial services and professional advisory. She has held senior finance positions at FMBcapital Holdings, Letshego Group and KPMG, and currently serves as a non-executive director at Old Mutual Botswana. Her background includes financial strategy, governance, sustainability and mergers and acquisitions.

Legal and governance expertise comes through Hildah Mocuminyane-Hlanti, who has held senior positions including Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA), Head of Legal at NBFIRA, and Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal at BTC. She has also served on several public sector boards, including Botswana Post, Botswana Railways, Botswana Savings Bank and the Local Enterprise Authority.

Completing the appointments is Ikanyeng Molemele, an ICT and digital transformation specialist who currently chairs the Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub and leads consulting firm IkyCom Solutions. Her international experience includes leading technology programmes for organisations such as Vodafone, Huawei, British Telecom and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Her expertise covers digital transformation, cybersecurity, IT governance and organisational change management.

In announcing the appointments, BTCL said it looks forward to the new directors' contribution as the company continues executing its strategic objectives and creating sustainable value for shareholders.
