Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) has announced the resignation of its Company Secretary, Sidney Mganga, bringing to an end an eight-year tenure during which he oversaw the company's governance, legal and regulatory functions.
The state-owned telecommunications company said Mganga will leave the business effective July 25, 2026. In a notice to shareholders, the BTCL board described him as "an integral part of the Company" and thanked him for his contributions over the past eight years.
During his time at BTCL, Mganga advised the board on corporate governance matters while serving as company secretary. He was also responsible for overseeing the company's legal and regulatory functions, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
According to his professional profile, Mganga has more than 17 years of private sector experience spanning legal practice, compliance, regulation and corporate governance.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Botswana and is an Associate Chartered Company Secretary through the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Southern Africa (ICSA). He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Tax and Audit at Botswana Accountancy College and attended the Senior Management Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.
BTCL said Michelle Molefi, the company's Head of Legal and Regulatory Services, will assume the responsibilities of Company Secretary in an acting capacity while the board begins the process of appointing a substantive replacement.
The company did not disclose the reasons for Mganga's departure or announce his next destination. It said the board would appoint a substantive Company Secretary "in due course."
