The Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) has appointed a new nine-member Board of Directors, bringing together professionals from the legal, banking, construction, property, planning, engineering and financial services sectors.
The new board was appointed by the Minister of Water and Human Settlement on 1 August 2026 and formally assumed its responsibilities following an induction programme held on 10 August.
Othusitse Mbeha, a practising attorney and managing partner of Othusitse Mbeha Lawyers, has been appointed Board Chairperson, while banking and business executive Lynette Leburu will serve as Deputy Board Chairperson.
Mbeha brings 12 years of legal experience to the board, with expertise spanning land, labour and employment, administrative and constitutional law, as well as corporate governance. He has previously advised the Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa on governance matters and served on the Law Society of Botswana’s Disciplinary Committee.
He was also appointed in 2025 to the BCL Commission of Inquiry and the Data Protection Tribunal, where his term runs until 2030.
Leburu, who currently serves as Managing Director of MILYK Holdings, has more than 14 years of experience in commercial and retail banking, relationship management and corporate communications. She previously held senior roles at First National Bank Botswana, including Commercial Relationship Manager and Acting Head of Commercial Banking.
The board also includes Matilda Mothei, a professional quantity surveyor with 24 years of experience across Botswana and the United Kingdom. Mothei is a Director at LITT Consult and has worked across cost management, contract administration, tendering, project management and quality assurance.
The other members are architect Nthabiseng Balebile Maedza, housing and urban development specialist Amutshilani Setoboli, attorney Oarabile Cassius Molefe, chartered accountant Mompati Kgaimena, industrial engineer Michael Dikoloti and town and regional planner Pule Nicholas Ramolemoge.
Setoboli is the only non-independent member of the new board. She is currently Chief Housing Officer (Policy) in the Department of Housing and serves as Acting Deputy Director Housing in the Ministry of Water and Human Settlement.
Her appointment brings direct public-sector housing policy experience to the board, with more than 20 years of experience in housing and urban development across Botswana and Zimbabwe. She has worked on housing policy, monitoring and programme implementation and has contributed to Botswana’s reporting on the New Urban Agenda and localisation of Sustainable Development Goal 11.
Kgaimena brings more than 25 years of financial services experience and 18 years as an accounting partner. The chartered accountant has held non-executive directorships at G4S Botswana and Botswana Privatization Asset Holdings.
Dikoloti, an industrial engineer and quality management specialist, has more than 15 years of experience spanning manufacturing, energy, railways, mining and supplier development. He has worked with organisations including Botswana Railways, Puma Energy Botswana, the Botswana Bureau of Standards and the United Nations.
The property and built-environment expertise on the board is further strengthened by Maedza and Ramolemoge. Maedza is Principal Architect and Director at Maze Architects, while Ramolemoge is Property Development and Facilities Manager at Estate Group of Companies.
Molefe, a partner at Marata Molefe Attorneys, adds around 17 years of legal experience, with specialisations including property and conveyancing, commercial law, public procurement, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.
The appointments come as BHC continues to operate at the intersection of housing delivery, property development and public-sector policy. According to the Corporation, the new board will provide strategic and governance oversight as it works towards its long-term objectives and its mandate of delivering quality and affordable housing.
