Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) has appointed Thato Kewakae as its new Board Chairperson, effective 22 September 2026.
Kewakae has served as an independent non-executive director on the BTC board since September 2021 and has been serving as interim Board Chairperson since 23 September 2025, following the resignation of Mokgethi Magapa. He also chairs the Directors’ Affairs & Governance Committee.
Kewakae brings a background spanning business, information and communications technology and consulting. He previously served as Managing Director of Cabling for Africa Botswana for six years.
Before that, he held several senior technology and operations roles, including Information Systems Manager at the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), Manager of Special Projects and Chief Information Officer at Botswana Post, and later Chief Operations Officer at the postal operator.
He has also served as a non-executive board member of Botswana Housing Corporation, where he sat on the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Human Resources Committee. He previously served as ICT Sector Chairperson on the BOCCIM board, now Business Botswana.
Kewakae is currently leading a team responsible for digital transformation projects at a local diamond mining company.
His academic qualifications include a Master of Business Administration from the University of Botswana and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the Birla Institute of Technology in India. He has also completed the Executive Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch and project management courses at Wits University and the University of Cape Town.
