Stanbic Bank Botswana has appointed former Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) chief executive Oduetse Andrew Motshidisi as an independent non-executive director.
Motshidisi’s appointment took effect on September 23, 2026, subject to confirmation at the bank’s Annual General Meeting.
The appointment brings more than 30 years of senior management experience across Botswana’s regulatory and banking sectors to the bank’s board.
Motshidisi previously served as CEO of NBFIRA, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Botswana and as a Special Appointee in the African Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
His experience spans governance, regulatory compliance, investment banking, asset management, policy development and implementation, strategic planning, change management and leadership.
Motshidisi has also held board positions at several Botswana institutions, including the Botswana Stock Exchange, Absa Bank Botswana and Absa Life Botswana, giving him experience across both financial services and corporate governance.
Stanbic Bank Botswana said his experience across the public and private sectors would contribute to the board and the bank’s continued growth.
Motshidisi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Botswana and a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The appointment comes as Stanbic Bank Botswana adds a director with experience spanning financial regulation, central banking, international financial institutions and private-sector boards to its governance structure.
