Decoder: How To Apply for Twitter Monetization Program In Botswana

X (formerly Twitter)'s revenue sharing program lets you share revenue from verified users' organic impressions of ads displayed in replies to content you post on X. This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on X. It is important to note that only impressions from verified count towards the revenue program.

Luckily for Botswana Twitter users, the program, as well as Stripe, which is where the payouts are made to, are both supported in the country and setting them up is very straightforward. This article shows how to do it.

How to become eligible

  1. Be subscribed to X Premium or Verified Organizations.
  2. Have at least 5M organic impressions on your cumulative posts within the last 3 months.
  3. Have at least 500 followers

What you’ll need once you are eligible

  1. A Stripe account. Luckily for Botswana X users, Stripe for X monetisation is supported in the country.
  2. Adhere to our Ads Revenue Share Terms, which include, for example, Creator Monetization Standards and the X Rules.

How it works

  1. Eligible users will be able to join and set up payments from within the Monetization section of the app. This is found in the side menu on iOS and Android, and the overflow menu on web.
  2. Once you click “Join and setup payouts” you will be redirected to our payment processor, Stripe, to setup an account to receive your share.
  3. This Stripe account will be where you will be able to transfer funds to your external bank account. (visit this link on how to setup your stripe account)
  4. Once you opt in, you will receive payouts at a regular cadence, so long as you have generated more than $10 USD.

How to appeal if your account is paused for review

  1. If you receive notification that your payouts have been paused because your account has been flagged for review you will have an opportunity to appeal.
  2. Your account will continue accrue revenue until a final decision is made. This includes accounts that have been suspended.
  3. All participants will have the opportunity to appeal if their account is flagged.
  4. You will have 30 days to appeal by writing to X by responding to the email we will send to you with meaningful evidence that your program should be restarted.
  5. If you do not appeal within 30 days or we reject your appeal, you will be made ineligible to restart the Program.

How to appeal if your account is paused at any point during the program

  1. If you receive notification that your payouts have been paused because your account has been found to be in breach of our terms and/or policies after receiving payment you will have an opportunity to appeal.
  2. Your account will continue to accrue revenue until a final decision is made.

Conclusion

The Twitter revenue program is an avenue to monetise the content one posts on the platform. However, as with anything else, to make it a success, a significant amount of planning and dedication around your content is needed. As only impressions from verified accounts count, it is important to make content which would appeal to and reach that kind of audience. Additionally, according to Twitter, other ways to boost the reach of your content include sharing across other social platforms, using more media on your posts (video, audio, images), using relevant keywords, and being consistent.
