Botswana Diamonds PLC will change its name to Botswana Minerals plc and adopt the new ticker “BMIN”, marking a strategic shift toward copper exploration alongside its legacy diamond assets.
The AIM- and Botswana Stock Exchange-listed explorer said Companies House processed the name change on 24 February 2026, with trading under the new name and ticker expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. on 27 February . The company’s ISIN, SEDOL and LEI remain unchanged .
The rebrand follows what the board described as “exceptional results” from the application of an advanced artificial intelligence model to its 95,000-square-kilometre geological database, which includes 375,000 line kilometres of geophysical data. Initially deployed to identify new diamond targets, the AI analysis highlighted additional prospective ground and led to the acquisition of new diamond licences, with multiple drilling targets now defined.
However, the company’s strategic emphasis is broadening. After extending the AI model to other minerals, the board identified 11 copper target areas, applied for the most prospective ground, and secured 8 licences. A two-stage work programme has been developed to prioritise drill targets across the copper portfolio.
Chairman John Teeling said the decision reflects both market conditions and long-term commodity trends. While Botswana remains one of the world’s leading producers of large, rare natural diamonds, the global diamond industry is facing a cyclical downturn and technological disruption, particularly from lab-grown stones at the lower end of the market. By contrast, copper’s role in electrification and the energy transition underpins what the company sees as a stronger long-term outlook.
Botswana is also emerging as a significant copper producer, the company noted, reinforcing its decision to expand beyond diamonds. The newly granted copper licences have already attracted third-party interest, according to the statement.
Despite the pivot, Botswana Minerals will retain its diamond portfolio, including the KX36 discovery, and continues to position itself as a multi-commodity explorer focused exclusively on Botswana.
The announcement, approved by managing director James Campbell, contains inside information for the purposes of UK market regulations.
