BIHL Appoints Allianz Egypt CEO Charles Tawdros to Board

Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL) has appointed Allianz Egypt Chief Executive Officer Charles Tawdros as an independent non-executive director, adding more than two decades of international insurance and financial services experience to its board.

The appointment takes effect on July 14, 2026, the group announced in a Botswana Stock Exchange filing on Tuesday.

Tawdros is currently the CEO of Allianz Egypt, a role he assumed in July 2024 after progressing through a series of senior leadership positions within the insurer. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as Managing Director of Allianz Life Assurance Company Egypt, Chief Financial Officer of Allianz Egypt, Head of Operations for the life business, and held several actuarial, finance and risk management leadership roles.

His appointment brings significant actuarial and executive expertise to the BIHL board at a time when insurers are navigating increasingly complex regulatory, investment and risk management environments.

According to BIHL, Tawdros is a seasoned insurance executive and actuary with more than 20 years' experience in the insurance and financial services industry. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Sciences from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Business Administration from Cairo University.

During his career, Tawdros has overseen finance, actuarial, risk, operations and strategy functions before taking the helm of Allianz Egypt, where he now leads one of the country's largest insurers. He also serves as Chairman of the Executive Council for Personal and Capital Redemption Insurance at the Egyptian Insurance Federation.

BIHL said Tawdros has built a strong track record in strategy execution, financial stewardship, corporate governance, risk management and business growth through various senior leadership positions.

"The Board is confident that his extensive leadership experience and industry expertise will be invaluable to the Board," the company said.

The appointment further strengthens BIHL's board with international insurance expertise, as the group continues to expand its operations across insurance, asset management and financial services in Botswana and the wider region.
