Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL) expects its profit before tax (PBT) for the six months ended 30 June 2026 to more than double compared with the same period last year, driven by stronger earnings from its associate companies and improved investment performance in its life insurance business.
In a trading statement issued on 20 August, BIHL said it expects interim PBT to increase by between 100% and 120% from the P201 million reported for the six months ended 30 June 2025.
This would put the Group’s PBT between P402 million and P442 million, representing an anticipated increase of between P201 million and P241 million year-on-year.
BIHL attributed the expected improvement primarily to higher equity-accounted earnings resulting from better performance by its associate companies. The Group also pointed to a stronger investment service result from its life insurance business during the period.
The trading statement provides an early indication of a significant improvement in BIHL’s financial performance ahead of the release of its full interim results.
However, the company cautioned that the financial information underlying the statement has not yet been reviewed or reported on by its independent external auditors.
BIHL said its interim financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2026 are expected to be released on or before 31 August 2026.
